NTI, TRCN & PGDE – Simple Guide

Step 1: Understanding NTI
The National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) is the body responsible for training, certifying, and licensing educators in Nigeria. Through NTI, you can get the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) license.
NTI offers several education programs such as:
- Advanced Diploma in Education (ADE)
- Early Childhood Education
- Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE)
- Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
- Bachelor’s Degree Program (BDP)
- Pivotal Teachers Training Program (PTTP)
Step 2: TRCN Registration
To become a licensed teacher in Nigeria, you must register with TRCN.
Requirements:
- NIN
- 2 passport photographs
- Education certificate (NCE, B.Ed, or PGDE)
- Registration fee: Kindly contact Mindklass here for the fee (covers PQE registration, certificate, license & admin charges)
Step 3: PQE (Professional Qualifying Examination)
The PQE is the exam that qualifies you for TRCN certification.
- Questions come from different areas of education.
- Passing the PQE means you’ll officially receive your TRCN certificate and license.

Step 4: For Non-Education Graduates
If you do not have an NCE or your degree is not in education, you must complete a PGDE (Post Graduate Diploma in Education) before registering with TRCN.
PGDE Requirements:
- Registration fee: Kindly contact Mindklass here for the fee
- O’level, BSc, or HND result
- NYSC certificate or exemption letter
- Birth certificate
- Change of name evidence (if applicable)
Classes are flexible and usually on Saturdays only. Depending on the centre, most rely more on online classes to cover the modules.
Program Duration: 1 year (2 semesters)
Mindklass will guide you to select the nearest NTI study center during registration.
Step 5: Why Register Through Mindklass?
- 24/7 support services
- If you register for PGDE through NTI, you can automatically register for TRCN using your NTI admission letter (NTI has a special TRCN exam diet nationwide).
- Flexibility with online classes (though NTI requires at least 60% physical attendance).
- Smooth guidance through the registration and documentation process.
In summary:
- Already studied education? → Go straight for TRCN registration + PQE.
- Studied another course? → Start with PGDE via NTI → then TRCN registration → PQE.
